Wasn’t it a fantastic weekend? One that made you proud to be British, proud of our shared history and traditions, proud of our weather which never ceases to let us down on public holidays and proud of our own communities, big and small, that got together and celebrated in style.

Here are the highlights of my weekend, starting with the Abbeydore and Bacton Jubilee celebrations on Sunday which we were lucky and privileged enough to have inside historic Dore Abbey (thank goodness). Over 120 people from the local community came along with their guests to eat, drink and celebrate. The highlight for me was when we all sang Land of Hope and Glory to the accompaniment of the organ, waving our Union Jacks in our own mini-version of the Last Night of the Proms. It was a wonderful day and one that will be remembered for a long time.

Monday was spent on the Recreation Ground at our neighbouring village, Ewyas Harold, where I had a stall as part of their Jubilee celebrations. It was a fabulous day, with us stallholders sharing kit kats, crisps, red wine and cider! I sold lots (a good few hours of crafting are now required to re-stock) and more importantly, over £4000 was raised towards a community mini-bus. Here’s my favourite photo from the day!

And the evening was spent in front of the telly watching the brilliant Jubilee concert in front of Buckingham Palace. I am still in awe of the amazing animations projected onto the Palace whilst Madness played on the roof. My opinions on some of the performers, however, are probably best left unspoken – Cheryl Cole………….!

Something more sedate was required for Tuesday, so we visited Abbeydore Court Gardens just down the road, who held a special opening for village residents and their guests. Of course, it was tipping down with rain, but that didn’t spoil our enjoyment of the beautiful surroundings and we even managed a couple of games of Pooh Sticks too!

Here’s hoping you all had lovely weekends too and that it hasn’t been too much of a shock getting back to normality. I missed Handmade Monday this week because of all the festivities but will be back this weekend for my weekly fix of beautiful crafts and creations. Until then……
